A Breastful of Hatred
Today, once again, O man —
Your patriarchy has won.
Once again you bowed my head
With your power.
No — my head did not shatter.
I have received — yes, I have received:
My mother’s smile,
A roof over my child’s head,
Food in my belly.
I have received a place
Among society’s vulnerable women.
And I learned —
I too can bow my head;
That too is a skill,
A lesson I possess.
Come then,
Let us celebrate your victory,
Come, revel in your manhood.
For your triumph I give you a gift —
A breastful of my hatred.
O man,
The day you become human,
That day I will give you another gift —
A breastful of my love.
