Identity:
In Bengali this plant is called Ashwagandha. In Hindi it is known as Asgandh, and in Sanskrit it is referred to as Pūrvagandhā.
This plant commonly grows to a height of one to four feet. The leaves of Ashwagandha range from three to five inches in length and two to four inches in width. The leaf tips are usually pointed. The flowers are generally small and consistently yellow in color.
Although this plant thrives best in warm climates, it grows in all regions of India.
Uses:
The roots, leaves, and stems of the Ashwagandha plant are used medicinally. The roots—preferably fresh and newly harvested—are considered the most effective for medicinal purposes.
Ashwagandha is traditionally used to treat swelling, cough, respiratory issues, arthritis and inflammatory conditions, emaciation, urinary disorders, loss of vitality, and insomnia.
