A person who abandons what is certain to seek refuge in the uncertain ends up losing even the certain—while the uncertain, by its very nature, is bound to be lost anyway.
The intent of this statement is that placing faith in uncertainty is sheer foolishness; it should be regarded as something already lost from the start.
