The Son-in-Law
Mother, oh mother—
your son-in-law has come!
He’s gone to bathe
with only a taro leaf on his head!
I gave him oil
to rub on his body—
he spilled it.
I gave him a knife
to cut the aalukachu—
he cut his nose instead.
I gave him water
to wash his feet—
he drank it all up.
I gave him a little stool
to sit on—
he lay down on it!
